1. ORGANIZERS

2. DATE AND VENUE

The European Senior Chess Championship will be held in Świdnica (Poland) from 4th April 2025 (day of arrival) to 14th April 2025 (day of departure).

The Championship Venue will be Hotel Esperanto – Świdnica, Stęczyńskiego Street 18.

The tournament office will be situated in Hotel Esperanto. All Delegations shall register their participation on the day of arrival (4th April 2025) between 12.00 and 21:00 and take part in the Captain’s Meeting (21:30).

4 PARTICIPATION

Each National Federation of the European Chess Union has the right to register an unlimited number of teams in both categories: Open and Women 50+ & 65+.

Each team should consist of four (4) players and optionally one (1) reserve player.

The teams may represent a National Federation or any regional structure of a National Federation (club teams, city teams, regional teams, national teams, or simply friends, etc. – there is no limitation), but all players must be members of the same federation.

In the 50+ category, players born in 1975 or earlier are entitled to participate.

In the 65+ category, players born in 1960 or earlier.

5. SYSTEM AND RATE OF PLAY

In accordance with the ECU tournament rules, the European Championship will be played in four categories: 50+ and 65+ categories both in the Open and Women section. There shall be a separate Women’s Championship if there are at least 8 teams in the respective category. Otherwise, the Women’s Championship shall be merged with the respective Open category.

The ECU Tournament Rules apply.

The Championship will be played in a 9-round Swiss system.
The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 seconds increment for every move played.

The default time for all rounds is 15 minutes.

7. ENTRY FEES

Each team shall pay the ECU fee in the amount of 100 EUR by bank transfer to the following account:

ORGANIZATION FEE

Each player shall pay a starting (organization) fee.
The organization fee depends on the date of registration and payment:

50 EUR – for players who registered and paid before 4th of February
60 EUR – for players who registered and paid before 4th of March

100 EUR – for players who paid later.

8. APPLICATIONS, REGISTRATION

The completed application forms should be sent by email to info@estcc2025.pl

The complete registration form must include the surname(s), first name(s), and the FIDE ID number. It must also include the name and telephone number/email of the participant.

All participants (players, captains, accompanying persons, etc.) are requested to send a photo for their badge by email to: info@estcc2025.pl

Teams will not be registered until all their registration requirements have been fulfilled.

The application deadline is 4th March 2025, but there is a lower organizational fee for participants registered earlier.

9. ACCOMMODATION

Esperanto Hotel (***+)

Single room – 85 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Double (twin) room classic – 105 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Double room premium – 130 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Triple room – 150 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Hotel “Stary Mlyn” *** ~500m walking distance

Single room – 65 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Double (twin) room classic – 85 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Double room premium – 120 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Hotel “Pod Wierzbą” *** ~700m walking distance

Single room – 65 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Double (twin) room – 85 EUR / room for a night with breakfast

Each of the mentioned hotels has a restaurant.

A special offer will be prepared for the participants.

The Organizer can only guarantee accommodation in the official hotel when reservation and payment have been made on time. After the registration deadline, the Organizer is not obliged to provide accommodation. Reservations made in the official hotel are valid only if the payments (organization fee and 30% of the accommodation fee) are made no later than 4th March 2025.

10. TRANSPORTATION

The Organizer will provide bus transportation for teams to the official hotels on 4th April (arrival) and back on 14th April (departure) from/to Wroclaw International Airport.

The cost of transfers in days of arrival and departure is 25 EUR in one way.

Transportation on other days is possible on personal request.

11. PAYMENTS

At the time of registration, payment should be made for the organization fee, transfers, and 30% for the accommodation. This payment should be made to the following bank account:

The remaining payment can be made later by bank transfer or in cash upon arrival.
Credit card payment may not be possible or may incur additional charges.

Bank commissions shall be covered by the Sender. Otherwise, the Organizer may charge the respective participants and the payment must be done in full during the registration.

Payments are not refundable. However, force majeure might, in extreme cases, be considered in cases when the Organizer can retrieve the funds from the venue.

12. PRIZES

The Winners of the European Senior Team Championships 50+ and 65+ will be awarded the title “European Senior Team Champion 2025”.

The Winners of the European Senior Women Team Chess Championships 50+ and 65+ will be awarded the title “European Senior Women Team Champion 2025”.

Trophies and medals will be given to the TOP 3 teams in each category.

Players with the best rating performance on their respective board shall receive gold medals. Silver and bronze medals shall be awarded to players with the second and third best rating performance on their respective board.

The award is in accordance with the ECU rules.

Valuable material prizes will be also prepared for the three best players on individual boards.

13. ANIMATIONS

The following excursions will be organized during the Championship:

  • Guided tour around Świdnica
  • Trip to Książ Castle or Old Mine – Science and Art Centre in Wałbrzych
  • Blitz tournament
  • Social evening

Additional information will be provided during the captain’s meeting and on the Championship website.

14. INSURANCE

All participants (players, captains, heads of delegations, accompanying persons, etc.) have to insure themselves against health and accident risks for the duration of the Championship.

15. VISAS

Poland is a member of the Schengen Agreement.

A person wishing to receive visa invitation from the Organizer has to stay in the official venue. Persons who prefer to stay elsewhere need to take care of their visas on their own.

The Organizer will not be responsible for issuing an invitation for visa purpose if necessary information (last name, first name, date of birth of each player, head of delegation, passport number, date of issue and validity) and scanned copy of the passport are submitted after 4th March 2025 or if payments are not done.

Members of National Federations requiring visas are requested to contact the Organizer.
